2 days with elephants

Hi Benjamin,

Yes, we loved Laos in every way : the landscapes, the heritage, and the people.

The Mekong River cruise was perfect.

We also really enjoyed the elephant camp. The site is superb. The approach to the elephants is personalized and well explained, which is fantastic. The minivan driver was perfect : punctual, a very good driver, very friendly, and very accommodating (he drove very well, stopped wherever we asked to take photos, etc.).

The only downside : he thought we were going to visit the town and region of Sayaboury but didn’t know we were going to the elephant camp, and didn’t know where it was, as his agency apparently hadn’t informed him. Similarly, the camp wasn’t notified of our arrival at the lake, the agreed-upon phone call, etc., and they came to pick us up in downtown Sayaboury at 8:30 a.m. but couldn’t find us.

I sorted everything out by calling the camp on the driver’s phone after realizing he hadn’t been informed of our destination (he was starting to show us a temple in Sayaboury), and by having someone guide him in Lao. In short, we left at 6:00 AM but didn’t arrive at the camp until 10:00 AM. We still paid him the $11 surcharge for the early departure. But aside from that moment of worry and the trouble of finding the camp, the day and the return trip went well.

Thank you for your advice and suggestions.

Best regards,
Gilbert
