In ancient time Khmuic people celebrated new year festival on the first waxing moon day of the first lunar month. At present day the new year festival is mostly not practiced or if it is, it is integrated with the harvesting festival.
Khmu’s traditional New Year celebration falls in December towards the end of the year. During this special moment, all Khmu’ families gather in one central venue to give thanks to our ancestors for the bountiful harvest, good health, and a peaceful community of the previous year. They also pray to our ancestors to guide the people to live in peace and harmony, to have good fortune and live a healthy life for the New Year. Traditional dances, sporting events, display the tools and traits.
